A new feature, now that I live in a neighborhood where going to bars doesn’t also mean driving home.
1) Huckleberry, Grand @ Lorimer, Williamsburg. Excellent place with solid draughts. Had a pint of Ommegang for six bucks, sat outside on the pretty patio. Wasn’t too full on a Tuesday night - is this place a little ahead of its time for the Grand Street corridor? Probably not, considering all these new condos that are now blocking my once pristine roof view of Manhattan.
2) Turkey’s Nest, Bedford @ N. 12th, Williamsburg. All drinks are served in lidded foam cups, which allows for the elusive drink to go. Also you can tell them to put a bunch of random crap in a cup (hypothetical example: orange juice+vodka+blue curacao+margarita slush) and then they’ll just quote a price. Hmm.
3) Duff’s, N. 3rd @ Kent, Williamsburg. Hands down the best bar I’ve been to recently. Heavy metal-themed, festooned in Megadeth and Pantera paraphernalia, frequently empty. Spin the wheel for three dollars and win a drink - or a dog biscuit.
4) The Levee, N. 3rd @ Berry, Williamsburg. Why is this place always so crowded? I’ve been here a million times, and save for the early afternoon sessions of my past, it’s been packed to the brim at each one of them. Fast fact: the second to last time I was here, my party was ushered out at closing, around 4:00am.
5) Bushwick Country Club, Grand @ Graham, Williamsburg. This place is designed for underage drinkers in about every way, so I guess it’s a good thing (maybe?) that they’re super-aggressive about carding. Mini-golf, barbeque, cheap tall boys of - surprise! - PBR, etc. Williamsburg could use fewer gimmicks but I guess it keeps things interesting.
5) Local Bodega, Grand @ Union, Williamsburg. Big bottles of Sierra for cheap. Nice Chinese lady.
